Maybe you have an idea that keeps returning. A business you want people to understand. A release that needs a visual identity. A version of your work you can feel very clearly but have not quite found the words for yet.
And then comes the practical question: who do I actually hire for this?
I wear a few creative hats, so let me make that part easier. Photography, filmmaking, creative direction and coaching connect in my world, but they are different ways of working together. You do not need all of them just because they exist.
When you need photographs
If your priority is a collection of still images, begin with the purpose. A wedding, a personal portrait, a brand session and an artist project each have an offering that can give us a starting point.
Tell me what the images need to do. We can talk about the setting, approach and session that fits. You do not have to arrive knowing how to pose or with a finished moodboard.
When the story needs to move
Film gives us pace, expression, movement and sometimes the actual sound of a moment. That can matter for a wedding, an artist visual or a founder explaining the work in their own voice.
If you want film, describe what you imagine someone watching and where they will watch it. A website opening film and a spoken interview are different projects. We need to understand the purpose before choosing the production.
When you need the whole idea to come together
Creative direction looks at the relationship between the choices. What is the concept? How do the images, styling, setting and motion belong together? What are we making, and why?
This is useful when a project needs a visual thread rather than a handful of unrelated assets. The Ocean Dream photographs shown here are an example of a collection with a distinct atmosphere. The direction gives the individual images a world to inhabit.

When you need space to think before producing
Already Gold is where I make room for another part of the process: clarifying what you want to create, noticing what keeps getting in the way and finding realistic next steps.
Coaching is a conversation and a separate offering. It does not automatically include a photo shoot, film production or business deliverables. If you need those too, we can discuss them clearly rather than blend everything into one vague promise.
My writing on Already Gold keeps returning to self-trust and visibility. Those themes connect with my visual work because being seen can be personal, even when the practical request is ‘I need new photographs.’ You can explore the writing without booking anything.
You can begin with the unfinished explanation
The inquiry does not need to sound like a professional production brief. Tell me what you are making, what you already have, what feels missing and whether there is a date we should know about.
From there, we can decide which kind of support belongs in the conversation. Sometimes it is one session. Sometimes it is a larger creative project. Sometimes the first step is simply getting clearer.
I am based in Santa Cruz and create throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Bring me the idea in the language you have. We can begin there.

With love,
